What made you decide to start Wing Foiling?
Because I do all water sports so I wanted to do this one too!
What is your background?
Start sailing, windsurfing, surfing very young, doing many windsurf competitions in Youth (2x world champion), then SUP surf competitions on the world tour (9th world ranking APP 2019).
Where and when did you make your first experiences?
In July 2019 at home.
Some action pictures from our Rider of the Week Julien!
What are your goals in 2020 with wing foiling?
Have fun! Pushing it, waves, freestyle, cruising,…
Can you describe the feeling of being on a foil? What makes this sport so unique and special for you?
You are flying over the water, it’s fast and smooth! Such a good feeling!! Feelings you can only have on the foil!
This sport is so new and developing very fast – what are your wishes to the industry? Where is potential to develop the wing foiling gear?
The wings are getting better and better, lighter, more stiff so you can go in every conditions of wind.
Your favourite move?
I think the 360, so much fun to do and also the “backloop”.
Your favourite wing foil spots?
Everywhere haha, good when there are good waves.
Where do you see wing foiling in 5 years from now?
I don’t know, I just enjoy it every session!!
What´s your most used gear set?
RRD 4m Wind Wing and Dolphin 140 or 160
Your best memory of wing foiling so far?
Big session in Scarborough (South Africa) with my brother Camille. More than 30 knots of wind and more than 2 meter waves. We were caught in the inside a few times!! It was hardcore!!
Anything else you want to say?
I love Wing Foiling because you feel like surf foiling every time. For me it’s more like surfing than sailing. And many people compare it to windsurfing or kitesurfing, but we don’t have to compare, it’s just a new toy to enjoy riding the ocean.
Thank you for the great interview in our Rider of the Week section Julien!
