North NOVA Review – Nova Wing V2 2022 | REVIEW
We have tested the new North NOVA Wing V2 2022 – size 5.0 – over the last weeks. Watch our North Nova Review video on YouTube.
The wing has been tested in wind conditions from 10 to 20 knots. Our North Nova Review and Test video contains five parts to explain you this wing foil wing in detail:
Part 1: INTRODUCTION
After the 2021 model of the North Nova, the North Nova Wing 2022 is the second version of the wing from North. They made a lot of changes compared to the previous version – it is pretty much a new wing. One of the main features are the new handles.
North calls them ‘the new, rigid GripLock microtrimming control handles’. This will definitely push your wing foiling to the next level.
Part 2: THE WING
The Nova comes in a beautiful bag with a foil assist pad on your shoulder. The North Nova is available in 8 different sizes from 1.9 m up to 7.0 m and in 3 different colours – red, blue and green.
In our North Nova Review, we found the 5.0 m wing is with its 3.4 kg (inc. leash) relatively heavy – compared to some other wings.
Part 3: ON LAND
What we noticed immediately is, how stable and smooth the wing floats in the air, when holding the front handle.
The new handles on the North Nova are simply amazing – check the video to see them in detail.
Furthermore the wing is solid with a lot of reinforcements on the seams and the wing tips. The wrist leash works perfectly fine.
Part 4: ON WATER
We had the feeling, we need a bit more pumping effort to get on the foil, BUT once we were flying, the Nova Wing 2022 feels just amazing. Together with the new rigid handles the wing feels very direct and easy to control.
The compact shape of the wing, helps especially on bigger sizes or for smaller riders, that the wing tips do not touch the water that easy.
Part 5: CONCLUSION
To summarise the North Nova Review we can say, it is a very nice product, from the bag to the wing – it is made with love! The highlight are definitely the new rigid handles, how smooth the wing floats in the air, how directly you are connected with the wing while riding.

North NOVA Review | THE WING
North about the North NOVA Wing 2022
The new Nova Freeride Wing has a completely different outline, a big sweet spot between the bottom and top end, and improved power delivery:
“When you’re riding the wing it has a much lighter feeling, the tacks, gybes and transitions feel really easy. We’ve focussed attention to the performance of the wing, but also to the user interface, with the introduction of rigid griplock handles.
“Rigid handles give you so much more control over the wing and the ability to initiate a turn with a flick of the wrist. You’re able to make micro-adjustments, and control the wing with one hand,” says Mike. “Plus the handles reduce fatigue.”
Product Manager Uli Sommerlatt says: “We spend a lot of time tacking upwind then riding rolling swells downwind. You’re literally surfing, carving, hacking these ocean waves. With the rigid handles our riding levels have improved so much – you nail manoeuvres straight away, first time.”
Power up in a wider wind range
Exceptionally smooth, balanced wing with powerful forward drive, massive wind range and light, intuitive handling. The new Nova has a compact outline with shorter wingspan. This improves the power delivery, makes the wing easier to handle and reduces tip-strike. New rigid GripLock control handles with comfort grip enables more intuitive hand positioning, micro-trimming, and more immediate control.
A big thank you to North for sending us the new NOVA 2022 wing for this review and test. For more infos and other products from North, please find them on their website and social media channels.
