Wingfoil World Tour Surf-Slalom Finals 2022
Wingfoil World Tour Day 04 and 05 were the final days for all surf-slalom competitors – who will be crowned as the new race world champions?
Day 04: Wingfoil World Tour Brazil
The men smashed through two full elimination battles, each consisting of four heats, two semi-finals and then a final. Finish in the top five in each heat and riders would advance on their way to the final. Titouan Galea (FRA) proved unbeatable.
Outwitting his competitors on the upwind legs, he then glided easily through the course to win both finals. Sadly for Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA) he had a big clash with Mathis Ghio at the end of the pump track in the first elimination final, but recovered to finish fifth in that race and lies in second at the end of the day’s racing.
In the women’s, Nia Suardiaz turned up with her engine revving hardest today, streaking to six race wins from six. The young Spaniard piled the pressure on Flora Artzner (FRA) who had a mixed bag of results. Flora Artzner is in third at the event after six races, behind Novotna and Suardiaz.
Highlights Final Day 06 Wingfoil World Tour Taiba, Brazil 2022
After four action-packed days in Taiba at the Copa Kitley GWA Wingfoil World Cup Brazil, the decisive heats in the Surf Slalom competition were on the agenda.
Although the mathematical scenarios were complicated, if tour leader Titouan Galea (FRA) could essentially stay ahead of his nearest rival, Francesco Cappuzzo (ITA), the title would be his. Titouan Galea (FRA) crossed the finish line in fourth place ahead of Francesco Cappuzzo to take the win!
After six straight wins the previous day at the Wingfoil World Tour, Nia Suardiaz (ESP) had been doing all she could to try to catch women’s tour leader, Flora Artzner (FRA), who only needed to finish in fourth or better at this event to claim her first title.
In the final race, the French ridersmade a great start, but was chased down by Nia Suardiaz. At the end of the downwind section, Nia Suardiaz was once again in front, but Flora Artzner indeed crossed the line in fourth, giving her third position overall here in Brazil and first at the end of the season.
Nia Suardiaz dominantly won the event, but Flora Artzner is the 2022 GWA Wingfoil Surf-Slalom World Champion!
